November to Remember

It was early November and I had been battling a bad unexplained rash on the back of my son's thighs for over 11 months. I had been to a two different doctors and had an appointment for a specialist in December. I was feeling discouraged.

The first doctor said it was a diaper rash. She said to treat it with a diaper rash cream. I had a hard time believing it was a diaper rash since it was just outside the diaper area, more on his thigh. I tried to avoid the use of steroid creams and tried every non-steroid cream I could find. I tried calendula, oatmeal, zinc oxide, etc.

Finally after about 6 months I took him to a second doctor who said it was a contact dermatitis most likely from the diaper. He said to try different diaper brands. I tired 5 different diaper brands, the most expensive cloth like organic ones. Some seem to make it even worse. I finally resorted to trying hydrocortizone and anti-fungal creams. All the time it continued to grow and spread. Nothing seemed to help. I had made an appointment for a dermatologist fearing that this was going to lead to lifelong scarring.

One day a friend asked me what essential oils were used on eczema. At that moment I realized even though I did not have a diagnosis, I could try oils! I could not believe I had not tried them previously. I felt really foolish for failing to realize this earlier but I immediately started (while doing all the self bashing inside my head).

I knew going into it I should not expect immediate results, after all the rash had been there for over 11 months. Well, I am very happy to say (and show) that in less than 2 weeks it is pretty much gone. I can still see some little lines (they do not show in the picture) so I continue to use the roll on but I am very happy with the results so far.

I thank God every day for bringing these into my life. I was skeptical on the use of essential oils for medical treatments when I first started. However, so many times I have been amazed at what they have done and continue to do in our lives.

How about you? Have you had something unexpected happen when you tried a "new" way to heal?

Roller Balls: my favorite way to spread the love

So I felt like I was wasting precious essential oils when I tried to carefully place a drop or two in my hand and they would begin to roll off. Then- oh the stress- if I needed to open another bottle to make a blend before I mixed it with a carrier oil (more precious essential oils going down my arm!). Hoping to have some of the essential oils still there and finally apply. Seriously, I was getting stressed!

In the beginning, I only had the premium starter kit. I was not sure if I wanted to use the roller ball as the kit suggested. I wanted to be able to spread my oils farther. So it sat waiting for the right moment.

Then, it happened, I got to the bottom of my first bottle (Lavender). I could see there was still lavender in the bottle but I could not get any drops to come out.  So I decided to top it off with a carrier oil and add the roller ball from my kit. And my first roller ball bottle was born.

We quickly began to use it for everything!! Bug bites, bee stings, cuts, burns.... lavender is the swiss army knife of oils you know!!

I ended up buying a couple other roller ball bottles online I loved it so much. We only have one diffuser and everyone wants it. So the sleepy time roller was born. I placed 10 drops of Peace and Calming and 10 drops of Lavender in a bottle with a carrier oil (I used jojoba oil).

The kids quickly learned to do it themselves, even the 2 year old! After he is done, he says, "mmm...smells good!"

I highly recommend making roller ball bottles for oils you use frequently. You can also reuse your empty bottles like I did and use the same oil that is in it so you do not have to wash it out!
If you do not have empty bottles I have used these glass bottles (affiliate link) successfully.

If you have an empty bottle or almost empty I highly recommend the metal roller balls (affiliate link) sold by Young Living. They glide so nice and fit the bottles perfectly.

So go out there and spread (or roll) some love!!!
